    Both

Structurally, we're getting better. GDP is up. Unemployment is down. We're not in any new wars.

Culturally, we're getting worse. ANTIFA and other leftists groups are becoming more brazen in their outbursts. Mainstream news outlets have been caught pushing fake narratives. Liberal havens (IE: California) are flooding illegals (specifically MS13 members) into the country and threatening security.

https://www.commondreams.org/views/2018/06/15/un-r... "The symptoms of the devastating inequality here include Americans now living shorter and sicker lives than citizens of other rich democracies. Life expectancy is down two years in a row. Tropical diseases are on the rise. Our incarceration rate remains the highest in the world (yes, we are exceptional!). Voter registration levels are among the lowest in industrialized countries: 64% of our citizens are registered (fewer vote) compared to 91% in Canada and the UK and 99% in Japan.

We need mass and vocal support for policies such as a Federal job guarantee (locally administered), free healthcare and education for all and help for former prisoners to reintegrate back into society.

As another measure of how much of an outlier in the advanced world the U.S. has become, we can look at the fact that in 1980 the top 1% of the population in the U.S. and Europe held about 10% of the national income. But in 2017, the top 1% in Europe edged up to 12% of national income, but in the U.S. the top 1% grabs up to 20% and rising."

https://countercurrents.org/2018/05/26/incompatibi... "Capitalism is not just profit. It is growth. Growth is what it breathes and lives on. Without expansion of production and consumption, capitalism slumps. And with cheap energy, it grows, hence the opposition to a carbon tax and to higher energy prices, which curb consumption. There is no wiggle room. The choice between life and capitalism will become clearer day by day. The incompatibility will become obvious to more and more doubters who whistle in the dark and hope for a renewable energy deus ex machina."

Worse. Greed, as practiced by Trump and other rich republicans and the idiots in the middle and lower classes who have been brainwashed by the rich thru Fox, will allow the rich to buy politicians and continue to push trillions of dollars to the rich and nothing to the 99%. === Why else would healthcare cost less than $200/month in Canada and over $700/month in the US ... Just greed. More for the rich.

Context? Without a context this cannot be answered. Some things are better. Some are worse. MANY things are better if you go back to just before the Civil War. There are always going to be bumps in the road. Now isn't the time to stop. Now is the time to slow down and watch for the bumps. Make certain that the spare tire has air in it.
