I own a number of Russian camera lenses and telescopes which are of the highest optical quality and are also built to last. My favourite lens being the MTO-MC11, which is a 1000mm catadioptric lens and as it takes T-mounts I’ve never yet owned an interchangeable lens camera it won’t fit. Best of all, it cost me peanuts.
The best 4x4 car I ever owned was the Lada Niva. Tough as old boots, ultra-reliable, go anywhere transportation which put my Land Rover Defender to shame.
As has already been mentioned, they make the most reliable man-rated rockets and rocket engines by far, and the rest of their aerospace sector has long produced some outstanding aeroplanes, including the Sukhoi Su-25, a supersonic ground-attack/tankbuster with almost as much punch as the Fairchild A-10 Warthog but far greater reliability.
It was also a Russian, Carl Faberge, who produced the famous Faberge Eggs. Nobody else ever came close to the same quality and nobody today can replicate them exactly.
