You are just 21 years old. Of course you could not possibly know. The only ones that win in gambling are the casinos, and that is why there are big bussiness! 99 percent of the time they win!
You know that know. Sometimes that is the only way to learn as a young adult: the hard way. I'm sorry that this happened to you, but I am relieved that you understand now that it was a mistake that you shouldn't repeat ever again.
I disagree with not telling your parents. Your mother, poor thing, has had to deal with it her entire life. She understands more than you may think. At the end, your parents are the ONLY ones that can really help and understand. Friends? It is not their problem and they can't help you.
Money is just that money. Money can be repaid. Money can be gained back. You can find a job or a second or third job and dig yourself out of the hole. Learning is what is most important.
Health is the one thing that you can't buy or fix. You have your health, your youth, attend college, have friends. You already have more than a lot of people.
If this is the worse of your problems, consider yourself blessed. I know a lot of people that have children with terrible incurable conditions. I see their suffering every single day because they can't help their helpless babies. You in the other hand, can help your self and you will recover from this. Yes you will.
Learn from this and move on. See if you can get money back from your flights. Get a job. Regroup. Recover. Move on. You will be just fine. You are just inexperienced like all other 21 year olds that think they know everything and that they are invincible. Wisdom comes from experience and with messing up and learning the hard way. You will be ok.
