Why are people protesting the dakota pipeline?

And can some one place explain why it's bad? It's just transporting oil, I don't understand what the big deal is. I'm confused lol. Thanks!

Because the pipeline threatens Native American sacred grounds and threatens to contaminate the local water supply. The Native Americans see the pipeline as yet another broken promise by the federal government showing its disdain for the Natives. The issue has touched such a deep nerve in the Native American population that tribes that have been rivals for centuries are banding together to support the protest. Because is going to cause a lot of environmental issues in sacred native land. Specially in the water that the villages drinks.
