Is it theoretically possible to create food from any element?

Since different elements are nothing but atoms in different quantities of neutrons, protons and electrons, is it theoretically possible to, for example take a metal and add or subtract electrons to finally change it into carbon and make it into an edible object?

Adding or subtracting electrons does not change one element into another. You just get carbon (for example) with a negative or positive charge, it still is carbon and acts like carbon. In order to change one element into another, you need to add or subtract protons. That's a LOT harder, it involves radioactivity.
