Why do universities (bastions of facts?) still incorrectly refer to Europe & Asia as separate continents?

They are clearly a single contiguous mass of land, together. We very rarely see "Eurasia" used. It should be the only term in use by academicians, yes?

    Tradition.

Europeans introduced the idea of continents before they understood the current meaning of continents.

The names they gave to the continents did stick.

While Europe and Asia are one land mass, they have distinct different cultures and as such in many fields they are not chucked together.

The incorrigible Europeans (& their derivatives spread all over) Europeans refuse to think it otherwise.
