Control Freak is making me nuts!?

What is the best way to interact with a person who is a control freak at work? Can't be ignored, This person is the boss. :-( This person has to have their finger in every detail of the job, on top of which they don't have a clue how to do a lot of what they are managing. So when your told to do something and try to explain the problem with that, your told to "just do the job". Then when it comes out wrong, you are blamed. How do you interact with a person like this?

You do the job to the best of your ability. When you're questioned about the work at hand you explain that you tried to come to them with questions relating to the work but they told you to just do the job and so you had to do it to the best of your ability to avoid further questions relating to them. If this isn't an adequate response and you get reprimanded then you take the situation to the person above your boss and explain what's happened and that you'd like more help when you ask for it.
