This is a tough question. I'm a big fan of both. I grew up in the Motown era, and I've seen both of them in their original configurations. I wish they got the props they deserve today. Hardly any of the R&B "stars" today pay any homage to the founders of the genre. Smokey Robinson, The Tempts, The Four Tops, The OJays, The Isley Brothers. There so many incredible groups that just sort of faded away. But back to your question.,
I have to give it to the Temptations. That first lineup, Otis Williams, Paul Williams, Eddie Kendricks, David Ruffin and the greatest bass voice of all time, Melvin Franklin had the songs, the moves and the style. I think the Temptations are the greatest vocal group of all time. The Tops don't have to hang their heads coming in second though.
Favorite Four Tops: "Baby I Need Your Lovin. "They did a tremendous cover of "Walk Away Renee," and "Bernadette" was great too.
Favorite Temptations Song: "Just My Imagination." Of course "My Girl" is a favorite, "Papa Was A Rolling Stone" and "I Wish It Would Rain" rank right up there.
I think the tougher question would be "do you dislike any song by either of them."
Nice question bringing back lots of great memories.
