That is a tough one. The subaru has one major flaw. The head gaskets will need to be replaced. It has a horizontal four cylinder in it, and were pron to letting go. The symptoms will be it overheats. At first might only overheat ounce and a while and the needle might just spike all of a sudden. Take cap off of radiator over flow tank and smell. If smells like exhaust, needs head gaskets. If your mechanic does not know subarus and i mean does no work on a bunch, he will probably miss diagnose it and you will be wasting money. The heads almost never warp. I know i sounds like a big problem, and kida is. Expensive to fix this issue. But will last for ever. Mine has over 300,000 original motor. I love it, never left me stranded. Plus I'm up north and it can go through the deepest of snow.
