How much income tax does an NRI have to pay on his salary while working in India?
Does anybody have an closer idea about how much income tax a NRI have to pay if he gets a job back home in India for a short term, lets say 6 months or a year?

It depends on the income earned by the NRI in India. There are slabs and certain deductions. It is computable only if we know the exact income of the NRI.

It all depends on his resdental status.
But for the income/ Salary earned in India then the Salary shall be Chargeable to Tax at the rate applcable to any other individual.
Also he would require to Get a PAN No for filing the IT Return.
If he is resdent in India then his global incomes are taxable in India.
However relef is available u/s 90,91.
So its better to conatct a Tax practitioner for better reponse

Income earned in India is taxable in India. It does not matter you worked as employee for 1 day or 1 year.
For both the residents in India or non-residents in India, income not subject to tax is Rs. 1,50,000. Both pay tax at same rate. However, if you are resident in India for that year, you must report your worldwide income. Read this http://mytaxes.in/index.php?topic=108.0
