Americans are hard working people. Of this there is little doubt. Unfortunately, it doesn't matter how hard working we are, if there are no companies to employ us.
The United States imposes some of the highest tax rates in the world (maybe the highest) on its corporations. That fact, plus labor costs, are driving companies to other countries. If we create an environment, in this country, in which companies cannot compete with international competition, there will be fewer and fewer jobs to be had.
Those are the economic facts of life. Without entreprenuers who are willing to invest their money in businesses in our country, our economy goes nowhere. Heavy tax burdens are one of the fastest way to chase businesses offshore.
It is a ridiculous argument to say that we should have individuals paying lower tax rates, and businesses paying higher rates. That's like saying to your boss, "I know that giving me a pay raise might put you out of business, and I won't have a job at all, but I want the raise anyway".
It is a fundamental lack of understanding about how the economy actually functions, that leads people to vote with their emotions, instead of their heads.
We get the government we deserve.
