I used to wake up in the mornings with sore throats and the like that would last through out the day. i've found that some over the counter throat sprays work....but at the same time, sometimes such medications are not in reach or obtainable at the time.
The best thing that I've found is to heat up some water (luke warm. Not too hot, but should not be cold either) and mix salt in with it. Stir it good and then gurgle the mixture. A lot of times I would start with a slow gurgle and then let it sit, trying to let it go as far down my throat and sitting there without swallowing (of course you always swallow a little bit, but it won't hurt you.)
This method always seems to sooth the pain quickly for me. And if it did not completely clear it up it would reduce the pain and annoyance a bit. A second rinse usually 5-15 minutes later would then finish it off.
