Why do schools block the word "gun" when you type it into google?

In my school, if you go to google and type in "gun" it goes to this webpage:

http://10.10.20.102/globalblock.html?URL=http://ww...

Why?

Its like the schools are against the first AND second amendments

(I think they keylog everything too)

Why would you want to look up guns at school anyway? Do you want that label of being the next columbine shooter.........I sure wouldnt. Schools take everything way seriously and never just let things slide, if you even say the word gun they are all over you like you are about to pull one out and shoot it in 2 seconds.

Well the liberal mentality seems to be to block everything they don't agree with and yet just this past week a school in Illinois was forced to watch gay porn as a sort of gay indoctrination. This country is fuct.

the slowww is exactly right, get an education but don't let anyone think for you! download a program called torpark and throw it on a flashdrive, you'll be able to get past all the bull$hit.

because of everything happening with terrorism and crime, schools have to block basically everything.

They only block the word gun because students "might" want to buy guys and guns represent violence.

You can't really blame them because the internet is a huge thing and schools have to be extra careful because parents and administration are watching them like a hawk.

It's all meant for safety =]

Yeah, it is ridiculous. Apparently a bunch of depressed nutjobs shooting up schools is grounds for blocking keywords and your rights. However, they can do it. And it's also legal, since that is the school's personal and private connection.

Try a site like www.proxify.com if you'd like to get past those filters.

You can find more "proxy sites" at www.proxy.org. (just click the links on the right).

well, logically, it's because of all the school shootings and bomb threats. they usually just don't want to be responsible for something like that happening and don't want people to be able to search it on their network.

also, a lot of times they just set up a filter against many different "bad" search words and the program chooses which words won't work, i remember when i was in middle school i couldn't get on aim or check my e-mail until they fixed the program.

hope that answers your question. : )

because the word 'gun' could bring up all sorts of bad stuff on the internet

and they dont want children to be exposed, or they dont want to promote, gun crime

and at my school they like accidently put it too tight and nearly EVERYTHING was blocked, like any girls names, and some of the reasons they give are 'turkish bad words' for ebay and i mean, i dont even speak turkish, so i wudnt kno a bad word i i saw 1

well i know it sounds a lil silly but its to prevent violent sites from popping up. my school doesn't actually block the word gun but images of guns are thought to be ''offensive'' to some people and so some schools block this word lol i think its a little extreme myself

I kno, things like that are so annoying. But there are lots of explicit and bad websites, involving guns. They want their students to be using their technology to its full usage, and they believe that websites that involve guns, are not be of any educational help... plus there are lots of 'bad' results when you type in gun into google. :)
