Ancient yuletide carol is likely referring to the songs sang by 'pagans' -- Christianity 'borrowed' that particular time of year for Christmas, prior to a Christmas it was called Yule (hence yule-tide, yule log, etc).
So, long story short: loudly sing the pagan songs of Yule.
...and FYI, it is "TROLL" -- it's in Deck the Halls and it utilizes older English that isn't heard today.. kinda like "gay apparell" is not referencing the metro-sexual male.
