Will engine blow if tail pipe is blocked with an empty plastic bottle?

Just wondering what will happen. Will built up pressure in exhaust system force out the bottle.

This question has something to do with parking lot rage. I will not say if I was on the receiving or not. Let's just leave like that.

The motor will start but will either blow the bottle out or shut the engine off in a few seconds unless there is a bad exhaust leak. It may also cause an exhaust leak to start before its time. It will not in any way hurt the motor because it will not run long enough to hurt anything if it stays in there. Too many people understand too little about automobiles to be answering questions on here.

Yes, it will blow the bottle out. However, if the exhaust is blocked by something more substantial, like the tail pipe being sandblasted shut by hours of travel on a gravel road (it happened to us) then the catalytic converter and/or other sections of the exhaust will probably balloon, your vehicle will get noisier, you will lose power - hills will get more difficult, and you will burn far more gas.

If a car's exhaust system is very tight a blockage of the exhaust will either:

Prevent the car from starting if it isn't running.

Or make the car die if you block it while it is running. Cars need to breathe(intake/exhaust) and can't run without breathing.

If you start up your car and put your hand over the exhaust the car should shut off, no harm done of course.

yes pressure will blow it out, but if the pressure builds up and the bottle doesnt pop out then yes it can very possibly blow the motor. more or less it will blow seal or rings in the motor. if it is close enough to reach with stick or pipe, (pipe works better) warm up the pipe till it glows and run it through the bottle, melting a hole in both ends and u have air flow back till u fix it.

No, possibility's are cracked head or block or leaking head gasket, or its chilly out any of the 1st 3 could reason a great variety of white smoke that doesn't bypass away using fact the vehicle warmed up. its commonly used for a vehicle to have a sprint plume of white smoke till its warmed up and then it could quit. If it would not quit and your loosing coolant that would point out a issue.

    Plastic Exhaust Pipe

depends on how tight you put on that bottle..

if the bottle holds, the engine will just stop running after a while, the gasses that normally leave the combustionchamber trough the exhaust pipe, will remain there, and then there is no place for the new gasses,so it will stop running.

The question that begs to be asked is WHY??

It will *probably* not 'blow the engine' and it might blow the bottle out.

i put a ball in my old 1978 Chevy Van with a big V8 and all it did and blow the ball out like a gun

Probably not - most likely it'll melt the bottle.
