Thanksgiving (in the USA) was originally an extension of the Harvest Festival from Europe and occurred on the date when the harvest was complete. Obviously this varied widely around the country but usually happened in October or November. When it was decided to create a single Federal Holiday in 1941 it was fixed as being on the fourth Thursday in November.

  • Will red butterfly's look OK on a Christmas wreath?

Best answer: Sure, why not? Never heard of butterflies as Christmas décor, but it wasn't all that long ago that nobody had heard of sleighs and reindeer as Christmas décor. You're the artist, so YOU decide!

  • Is there anything wrong for a person who does not want to celebrate Christmas nor does he/she want to set up his/her Christmas tree?

Best answer: No. It's a personal choice. We keep things pretty low key here. For some, though, who normally go all out with decorating, it could be a sign of depression if they don't do it anymore.

  • How do I get over the heartbreak this Christmas and Thanksgiving of my mother banning me from seeing my Dad and his family?

Best answer: I'm so sorry. It's so wrong when one parent uses kids as a weapon against the other. Your mom is wrong to do this too, but there's no point creating more animosity with her about it. Your mom is wrong to do this too, but there's no point creating more animosity with her about it. It's just a pity your dad doesn't feel strongly enough to fight to see you over the holidays.
You can tell your mom how you feel and ask that she let you spend time with him.
If she won't budge, two things to remember.
Although at 15 Christmas and Thanskgiving are an important thing in your life, it's only one day a year at a time, out of it. You can create a day to be with your dad and celebrate non-Christmas and non-Thanksgiving. Give him that to look forward to and try to look forward to it yourself too.
At 15 you won't have many more years of this. Soon you can make your own mind up and whilst I wouldn't say you should make your mom suffer for her mistake, it will be up to you then, who you choose to spend Christmas/Thanksgiving with.

  • Where has the Christmas user been who is always posting disastrous "What If on Christmas" scenarios?

I have not seen him or her post in over two weeks. They claimed they were being checked into a psychiatric ward in their last post but I assumed that was a joke or attention ploy. Has he or she posted since? I worried about that person and think they were real as most trolls would have given up. Where is the user... show more
