We recently got engaged on our anniversary and plan to marry next year on our next anniversary. We already planned on a small wedding with no bridal party because neither of us have many close friends. We were just planning on our immediate family, a few aunts/uncles and cousins, and some friends. However, we want to have our small ceremony 2 hours away from our hometown. His mother said no one will attend because they don t want to drive the 2 hours. Our venue is in a very popular tourist area with lots of hotels available and many attractions and restaurants. Not a terrible place for a wedding. Because of negative feedback I m now thinking him and I should just drive up ourselves, have no guests at all, and the chapel can provide witnesses to sign our license.

  • Did I do wrong?

I loaned some of my wedding savings to my brother. He was unemployed and he needed money for rent. My girlfriend found out and she’s extremely mad. I couldn’t leave my brother in the streets. I had to do something.

The reception is basically where the newlyweds are introduced socially for the first time. This can be a very simple affair with cake and punch or it can be a lavish event with a feast that lasts for hours. I personally prefer the smaller and less formal events simply because they are smaller and less formal.

My fiance and I are eloping in Costa Rica and it will be just the two of us. We want to have the ceremony in the afternoon so we can take pictures during sunset on the beach but that leaves the entire day to do something. It won't take us very long to get ready for the ceremony and since we are in another country by ourselves we wanted to make the entire day special and spend it together until we are getting ready. Ideas for what we could do? It will be in January which is dry season in CR and it will be good weather for being outside.

  • Why would a bride’s friends keep dropping out of her bridal party? Why wouldn’t she have friends?

Best answer: Some brides become monsters once they think they have the power to boss others around. Many also fail to recognize that their weddings can't be the sole focus of someone else's busy life.

Long story short, My bf and I have been having this talk since October 2017. I want somewhat a big party because I mean, I am getting married. It's a journey with your soulmate and I want to share that special day with ppl that are close to me. He wants a small gathering with only family members. However, I want a few co-workers and a few friends that have been there for me. He has friends and most of his family is in Mexico and I can understand that probably they'll be more ppl on my side than his side. I cut my guest list short to somewhat please him but that didn't work for him. He has that idea of having a simple wedding but I don't want something small. Can someone please advise me on how to handle this situation?

First off, there were many ppl I did know or have seen in a while. There was one cousin that I was close who is 19 his sister that’s 24 is the one that got married. We don’t talk much anymore but anyway I greeted him and that was about it. So basically all of my cousins were talking to each other while my brother and I sitting at a table alone only talking to each other . A lot of people knew my mom I guess because that’s her family so she interacted with people there. I know they are family but we just don’t have a bond I think it’s becsuse our family did t really go to many family reunions or anything. I’m just wondering seeing should I just try to avoid anymore family events or what? it was nice but I just don’t want to feel awkward.

Traditionally from my culture you have big weddings. It's a joyous occasion and something the whole family and all friends partake in. Strangely enough, my father is the one that is pushing for us to have this huge wedding. He looks at it as an occasion where he can call the entire family and everyone would gather. We live abroad and for him it would mean a great deal if he could gather everyone for my wedding. Money wise it's no problem. But for us we it's more important that we are surrounded with the people that are close to us and that we love. To be honest most of my family I don't know. I have no attachment to them. My fiancé feels the same way. We were thinking about 50 people, tops. My family is thinking around 400-500 people. I want to make my family happy but it's our day, right? I talked to my dad and he said: "I know that most of these people are strangers to you. But no one will ever care for you like your family. People only gather like this for weddings and funerals. And given the fact that your brother will probably die alone I would rather they gather for an occasion such as this. Would you please consider it?" What would you do in this situation?

  • Can we do this?

Best answer: Do a courthouse wedding and invite just your closest relatives. When he gets a break plan a big party. This isn't just for emotional reasons because as a military spouse you have a lot of perks a boyfriend/girlfriend doesn't get. Better to make it official for official reasons sooner than later.

  • What’s a nice way to break up with my boyfriend if he won’t get engaged?

Best answer: Ask him if he has changed your mind about your engagement. If he says no, then tell him that his silence about marriage is worrying you.
