Best answer: Either buck up or report it -- but know that there could be consequences if you do (even companies who have strong whistle-blower and no-retaliation policies struggle with retaliation). Do you have any witnesses? If not, it's a he-said she-said situation. I would start by documenting everything. Dates, details,... show more

  • Our landlord asked us to lie to his appraiser and say he was living with us in the house we rent from him?

Is this legal? I live in California and the landlord told us they had an appraiser coming by to look at the house and he asked us to lie and say that he lives there with us (as if we are not renting). I just want to make sure he doesn’t have us participating in something illegal.

Today he posted a 3 day notice to pay or quit demanding 2 months rent and late fees. I don't want him to file an eviction even though I'm confident we would win since the old tenant was still there because even if we win the eviction being filed could hurt my ability to rent another place in the future. What should I do?

Okay I'm not going to say the name of the restaurant but I've been going there for a while now and I really enjoy their food, but I'm also looking for a job, so I decided to apply for a job there. I filled out my application online, and two days later I called wishing to speak with a manager to follow up on my application. It was on a Thursday at 11:45 am. When the manager got on the phone he told me that I called during the lunch rush and it was a one of of the worst times for me to be calling him about my application. He sounded very stressed out too... at first I asked him how he was doing, but he never asked me how I was, and he said that he would look at my application and call me back if he needed me for an interview. He didn't say goodbye either when he hung up. It has me questioning, should I even work for said restaurant if this guy is the manager?

Hi everyone, I am coming up on the end of my 14-month lease at the apartment complex where I am living. Beginning Jan 4, it will be a month-to-month lease. I advised the rental office that via 30-day notice that I will be vacating the unit. Today, they reached out to me to let me know that there is an issue with the cancellation. They advised me that without the other person who is on the lease also signing to cancel, they will not let me out. For a little background regarding this other person, they are an ex, we broke up about 9-10 months ago, he ran for the hills and I have been living in the unit by myself and paying the full portion of the rent and utilities. I don't remain in contact with this person anymore, I do know they have left to join the military, and even if I could reach him, he probably wouldn't sign the release. To make things worse, the rent raises $600/month once it goes month-to-month on Jan 4. I have no idea how to handle this situation and there is no way I am going to be able to pay the rent now. Thank you in advance for your help.

I rent which is 600 a month but my friends tell me I'm just throwing my money away. I love my apartment, the area, and my landlord let's me do whatever to the apartment except major renovations which I wouldn't do anyway. I've been here for 5 years, and already made it my own by painting and everything. Water and trash are included, I have great renters insurance and just love everything. I can't imagine leaving. I know in the long run you end up owning a home when buying, but what if I lose my job and can't pay the mortgage? Or get sick and can't work, or the house burns down? You never know! At least with renting I can just pick up and leave wherever and whenever until I can find another place. Plus committing to a 30 year mortgage payment freaks me out. I already have a 10 year student loan I'm still paying on. Idk, any other pros and cons I should know about? AND I dont have to do yard maintenance, always have my own parking, a pool I dont have to clean, walking distance to work and shopping, it's like my own little world! And if I ever decide to have kids I might consider buying or just renting a bigger place.

Best answer: Most successful people feel that way from a very early age so it is not surprising that you are aware of this.

Don't make the mistake of thinking that Bill Gates or Steve Jobs are your models. These are outliers. In Gates' case it was his father that set him up. He just had to not put his foot on the brake at the wrong time. Steve Jobs knew what he wanted to do and started his career at the age of 12. Most people, whether successful or not, do not know at the age of 12 where they are going.

Think of life as being like a pyramid. You need to have the broadest possible base which is the education you are getting now. As time goes on you will narrow down your options but the broad base should prevent you from being closed out of anything that might be an opportunity.

An excellent university will fine tune your brain and develop the teamwork and leadership. Actually you should have already started to work those areas. Oxbridge will love that that if you can swing an interview there. It could get you a place at a university that will open any door you want to walk through.
