I know it allows you to communicate between different computers in your house and allows you to take control of what goes in and out, but does it do anything else besides that? Are there any advantages it gives you vs using Ethernet through a router? I saw Netgear make a switch called the "Nighthawk Pro Gaming SX10 Switch" and its a gaming switch. What would it do compared to using a gaming router?

  • Can I add my own router to spectrum network?

Best answer: I have been using just the spectrum MODEM and my own router ever since the service started. You do need an upgraded modem since the one you have is very old and very slow compared with the available speeds now! Ask Spectrum for just a modem.

Best answer: A true modem can connect only to one single device such as a PC or a router. A true modem can connect only by a wired connection and does not offer WiFi.

    There are two solutions:

    1)

    ISP
    v
    Modem
    v
Router 1 > devices connected to router 1
    v
Ethernet from a LAN port on router 1 to WAN port on router 2.
    v
Router 2 > devices connected to router 2

    2)

    ISP
    v
    Modem
    v
Router 1 > devices connected to router 1
    v
Ethernet from a LAN port on router 1 to a LAN port on router 2.
    v
Router 2 > devices connected to router 2

Solution (1) requires the two routers to offer different LAN subnets, and devices on router 1 cannot open connections to devices on router 2 without port forwarding.

Solution (2) creates a single big subnet across both routers. Router 2 must have its DHCP service disabled and must not have its own private address clashing with any devices on router 1 or router 1 itself. The WAN port on router 2 is not connected.

    I hope this helps.

Simple Googles work half the time while Netflix and online gaming doesn’t at all.

FTTN is fibre network and is much less susceptible to speed fluctuations caused by line quality - you are more likely to get the advertised speed than old ADSL2+. Also FTTN/c has the potential for greater speeds than ADSL2+.

As always you tend to get what you pay for

I want to get on my laptop, which is a windows 8 dell. But, I cannot log into it. The message displays when I try to log in, and at first I thought it was my password due to that message showing whenever I mistype my password, but even after changing the password, it still won't allow me in. I've looked this up, and people say it is due to their internet connection. The thing is, when I go to the Wi-Fi side tab, I do not even have an option to turn it on. My Wi-fi is just on "Off". All I can do is turn on the Airplane mode, Restart, or Shut down. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
