• What would happen if one person won the same powerball lottery TWICE?

I know that if two people won the same one, the full amount would be shared, so what would happen if there was only one winner but they got two tickets and chose the same winning numbers? Would they only get the full amount, or would they get the full amount x2?

  • Should the current US flag be replaced since it is racist and offensive?

Best answer: Honestly, this is like when people wanted Auschwitz torn down. You can't forget it happened or you'll forget who it affected. Forgetting the past leaves you with nothing to improve upon. If you're stuck being worried about the past, stop and just pay attention to what you can do now for the future.

Say that I get a part time job at a gas station, perhaps working solo on the graveyard shift a few nights a week. Gas Stations that sell lottery tickets have a computer system provided by the lottery that is used to print up lottery tickets, and also to scan the barcode on scratch tickets that customers give them to confirm the prize amount. I cannot answer for how any other State's lottery works, but the scratch tickets issued by the Virginia lottery has a barcode that can be scanned to determine the prize amount, if any, without actually scratching the boxes off. Say that I got such a job, and every time stacks of scratch tickets come into the store, I scan all the barcodes, checking the prize amount, if any, one scratch ticket at a time. And whenever there is a ticket that has a substantial prize, such as over a thousand, I purchase that ticket and redeem it for myself, and leave only the losing and chump change prize tickets for sale. And as gas stations tend to get stacks of several types of tickets, likely numbering in the hundreds for each ticket, there should be at least one substantial winner in every shipment, mathematically speaking. Could I make a high middle class living this way by simply working a few nights a week at a gas station?

  • Isn't is possible that convenience store owners or employees could cheat on the lottery using scratch tickets?

If there is no such invention that could be used for this purpose, I'm willing to bet the technology for creating such a device does exist. Could that ever be an issue? Perhaps a proprietor or employee of a gas station uses it. Every time stacks of scratch tickets come into the store for sale, they go through them and whenever one of the tickets has a sizeable prize, such as over a thousand, they buy it and redeem it for themselves, putting only the losing and chump change scratcher out for sale. Could the day come where this is an issue?

Best answer: As the odds to land on either color ("Black" or "Red") is 18/38 (= 9 / 19 or ~47.368%) & on "Green" (0 or 00) is 2 / 38 (= 1 / 19 or ~5.263%), which is ends to be the "House advantage" on the wheel. These odds are persistent for each round of betting.

The probability of the same color occurring 3 times in a row would be ((9 / 19) ^ 3) or ~10.628% & 4-in-a-row being ((9 / 19) ^ 4) or ~5.034%... which makes it SEEMS that the other color is due to appear (since the law of averages WANTS to balance things out). HOWEVER, that is just a statistical fallacy since the odds for a single spin still remains at 9 / 14 or ~47.368%.

Considering that the payout on color bets are 1:1 & that the house advantage is ~5.263%... you generally lose ~52.632% of your bankroll over the long-run (over a course of an hour or so). Therefore, you have to take the statistical anomalies to your advantage in order to make profit.

  • Is it wrong to be lazy/not work, even if you can afford it?

For example, what if you won one of those lottery scratchers that say you get $5,000 a week for life, which would give you the opportunity to quit your job and still earn lots of money. Would it still be wrong to not work?
