Two days in Siem Reap, Cambodia?

I'm going to Siem Reap next week and just canceled my tour booking due to unforeseen budget circumstances. I heard that you do not necessarily need a guide to go to the Angkor temples, is that true? I'm planning to just hop on my bicycle and cycle around town on day 1, venturing their markets and catch a cultural dance over dinner and day 2 probably hire a full day driver and see Angkor.

If I were you, I'd spend 1 1/2 days seeing the temples and a half day seeing the markets/Pub Street. I don't think that one day at Angkor Wat is nearly enough - there are soooooooo many great temples.

I also skipped a guide but I did hire a driver (motorbike towing a tuk tuk) which cost $15.usd total for the whole day (for four people). If you go for a half day, drivers are $7.-$9.

You're going to have an amazing time! Have fun!!

yeah you dont need a guide. i went there with my dad and brothers. but i am cambodian so yeah.
i observed groups of people following tour guides who were just explaining the history of angkor wat and stuff.
i saw loads of foreigners riding their bikes all over the angkor city complex. so i know its doable. probably tiring though.
the only reason you might need one is to translate and stuff.
oh yea they do charge you to see the main site 20$ i hear.
and the thing is they charge only foreigners so if you can get by good luck. my dad is a good talker and didnt let the guy asking if we were native cambodians talk lol.
