Pls advise where to go to in Australia to see whales?

I'm not from Australia. Intend to bring a class of students for an overseas learning journey and like to let the 10-12 years old kids learn about environmental issues and about protecting the animals. Any reccommendation? If the kids can do some voluntary work, join a workshop etc, this will be even better.

Hervey Bay would probably be a good place. They actually have a lot of whale watching tours running from there. And it's also easy access to Fraser Island, Australia's largest sand island. There is an organisation that runs volunteer days over there to help with invasive weed control in the rainforests. I'll look up the name and post when I find it, they run various programs all over Queensland.

I would suggest South East Queensland ....

They can hand feed wild dolphins on Moreton Island , take a whale watching tour from Redcliffe & visit Australia Zoo on the Sunshine Coast ...Steve Irwin's place ...where they will see & learn all about reptiles , including crocs , as well as many other species....

The advantage of being based in Brisbane is that all of this is close by so once you get here you won't have long distances to travel ..

I would suggest mid year if you want to see whales...that is their migration season...
