I'm in Shanghai for a holiday and want to buy some stuffs for my family and friends back home.

At this time of year I would say mooncake, take back a part of a traditional celebration.

Steve's suggestion of mooncakes is a good one. The Autumn Festival is rapidly approaching and mooncakes are available everywhere.

Be aware that your home country's Customs may not allow certain types of foods to be brought through by travelers. For example, the USA restricts all meat and dairy products. Only commercial importers may ship meat and dairy goods into America.
