What are some good places to go on the way from Bangkok to Phuket?

A friend and i are going to thailiand for 2 weeks, flying into bangkok and out of phuket, and we intend to spend about a week getting from bangkok to phuket, and good places we should stop and check out along the way?

It's great that you plan to visit Phuket as it is the paradise island of Thailand. On the way to Phuket, following are good places that I would like to recommend you to stop and visit:

1) Koh Samui, a nice holiday destination
It is a charming island with great beaches; i.e. the snow-white sand beaches shaded by towering palms which are very beautiful. The water is incredibly clear, so calm and good for swimming almost the whole year.
You will certainly enjoy and love the natural beauties at this hilly island.

2) Krabi, your best travel destination
It is one of the most attractive travel destination due to its white sandy beaches, fascinating coral reefs, forest with cave and waterfall, etc.
It is an invitation to relax and enjoy life as you never have relaxed and enjoyed before.

Thanks, Ive been before with my family and we hired a car and drove everywhere, but i can't remember all the places we went or find my lonely planet guide. Ive been to Koh Samui, Bangkok and Phuket before, & we'll go back, just hoping to find some other cool places along the way, We're hiring a car

there is nothing, all thai towns are the same

a bus terminal, dingy little market, some prostitutes a few restaurants

watch out for scams

Hua Hin can be nice for a day or two. It is a fairly relaxed beach town with a lot of package tourists. Don't expect wild night life there. If that is what you are after stay in Bangkok or go to Pattaya two hours east of Bangkok.

Koh Samed is not in the direction of Phuket but being close to Bangkok it is quite popular among tourists, and in the weekend lots of people from Bangkok go there.

Pattaya. About 2 hours by bus from Ekamai bus station, price around 120 baht for the ride. Ekamai bus station is on the Skytrain route. Hotels are cheaper in Pattaya than Phuket and Bangkok. Phuket area beaches are better, nightlife in Pattaya is better than Phuket. Pattaya City transportation is 10 baht!
