each time i go i spend 14-21 days and seems like just enough time to not feel rushed, yet want to come back..
here are for sure things/places to go & of course all the main ones you already know or have bunch of pamphlets on:
gris gras ( big waves crashing shore below big cliff view)
domaine du chasseur resteraunt ( a MUST with good food, low prices, and heavenly view- i believ name has changed, but any taxi driver will know)
black river gourge park (almost always wild monkeys too at main viewing overlook)
in north there is place where you wear big scuba type headpiece, walk under water and see fish, cant reme, mber name but hotel should know (its like being in your own personal mini sub and super safe, no need to swim, just walking on bottom of ocean cooooool)

As for a beach holidays with 1 or 2 tours, 8 to 10 days may be OK.

If you are anxious to discover the island and its attractions while having still beach holidays, 10 to 15 days are better.

    Additional information about Mauritius attractions:

Main attractions in Mauritius include on the western side:
    - Pamplemousse gardens (worldwide kown),
    - Maison Eureka (creole),
    - Casela bird park (fauna and flora) - family friendly
    - Cap Malheureux (landscape)
    - Chamarel (Colored Earths)
    - Le Morne (landscape)
    - several waterfalls
    - on the eastern side île aux Cerfs, 18 hole golf courses, Domaine du chasseur (park), Leisure park in Poste de flacq
    - on the southern side : Crocodile and Tortoise Park
    and so on

As for underwater, there are various opportunities, including a small submarine in Trou aux biches or glass bottomed boats. Also cruise to Ile aux Cerfs.

With regards trekking, the main area is the Black river gorge park (South-West).

Also religious and cultural places : Tamil temples, Grand Bassin,..

    Shopping incl. jewels and clothes.

As for sightseeing, tourists usually hire a taxi for a day (or half a day). They are waiting for you at each hotel. They know all above mentioned attractions. It is rather cheap. Ask for an estimate at your hotel desk since you have to bargain the price

Ideal would probably between 10-15 days in my opinion. It all depends on what you plan to do here. If you just intend to stay at the hotel and beach, then 8 days would be ok. But if you decide to visit the island, then 8 is not gonna be sufficient.

    Two weeks is ideal.
visiting the island with tours is well worth it,try to contact the hotel you will stay in,some have better kids activities than others.
