Would I get by in Ethiopia speaking English?

Question

Thinking of going there for a few weeks, maybe over Easter. I know the official language is Amharic but I'm afraid I can't speak that! I've seen a few people posting on here from Ethiopia speaking English, which gives me a bit of hope.... I guess I'd be in the major cities, but if there was a safe and organised trip to somewhere more remote I'd definitely be doing that too. Cheers guys!

Yes, we do speak the Queen's English. And don't worry there are many tourist and touring agencies, that will take you to the remotest part of the country. With a driver and a guide ofcourse.

Don't worry men, the country's education language is English and most people specially in towns do speak English.

So I have an Ethiopian friend who is more American than Americans ( he cannot speak the Ethiopian language), and he went to Addis and big cities such as those, and he got by just fine. But he said that they tried ripping him off because they thought since he was from America, he had more money... sad.
