UK Swearing Law?
Is it against the law to swear in public in the UK?
If so, which words are deemed against the law?
Best Answer - Chosen by Voters
General insulting terms and phrases directed to members of the public constitute as an offence against Public Order....
Under section 5 of the Public Order Act an officer (on or off duty with the production of a warrant card) may arrest any person(s) that have failed to listen to three verbal cautions related to swearing...
Hope this helps...
To whoever gave me the thumbs down .... LOOK I KNOW THE LAW! AND IT IS A SECTION 5 PUBLIC ORDER OFFENCE !!
LOOK IT UP IF IN DOUBT

Swearing per se, no - but depending on the circumstances repeated swearing might be disorderly conduct.

"swearing" in law means to swear an oath.
As for foul language, there is an offence of "using offensive or threatening words or behaviour" - what constitutes "offensive" is a matter of opinion. You can stand in the street and shout obscenities all day without committing an offence, but as soon as someone does find it offensive, then it IS an offence.
The word OR is in the offence name, so the behaviour may be offensive OR threatening, it does not have to be offensive AND threatening.

nope wouldnt have thought so, but if you swear at police, judge etc you could be cautioned, itl not be for your swearing as such but that you didnt heed their initial warning when they asked you to refrain
