When my kids were little, I did this.
We have always had a family calendar the ones that have a row for each member of the family, this helps make the days special.
I would colour in the Saturday and Sunday with the same colour highlighter.
I would then colour each other day in a different colour.
The kids would have a daily ritual of marking off the day at breakfast time, taking note of any special events that were happening for that day ie: Monday susie kinder 9-12 Monday chris school 9-3.30.
It also helps if you can differentiate each day with something that happens every week on the same day ie: Wednesday is garbage day or a swimming lessons are on Tuesday.
It really is a matter of you first getting yourself organised and writing every little thing on the calendar and making a habit of getting your kids to do the same. If they get a party invite let them put it on the calendar, school excursions, birthdays, dentist or doctor visits the list is endless of what they can put in their special space on the calendar
