Clomid dosage?
Hi,
My doctor is thinking of putting me on Clomid, I am going back in to discuss this with him next week. I just have a few questions I don't want to wait to ask. I have read about this a lot and most women start on 50mg, when does the doc decide to go up to 100mg and is that just taking two 50mg tablets or is there a 100mg version? Also I heard someone talking about "pure" Clomid, what is this? Do the doctors not give "pure" Clomid? And finally how long will he put me on 50mg for until he puts me up to 100mg? Will he monitor me to see if it is working? How will he do this? Scan, blood?
Thanks

When does the doc decide to go up to 100mg? Well, I think that varies, some may up you immediately if they find that you don't ovulate, some may wait a couple of cycles and then increase the dosage.
Is that just taking two 50mg tablets or is there a 100mg dosage? I believe that there is a 100 mg dosage tablet, but all I have ever been given is 50 mg strength tablets, and i take more each day to get the strength my doctor prescribed. Like my last cycle was 150mg so i took three pills a day for five days.
What is "pure" Clomid? I have never heard that before. Maybe where you read it they were referring to pills you may buy without a prescription, maybe not being true Clomid or something?
How long will he put me opn 50 mg before increasing to 100 mg? I think that all depends. My doctor did two rounds at 50 mg before upping the dosage.
Will he monitor me to see if it is working? I'm sure that he will. My doctor had me do a progesterone serum test. I just had to go in between cycle day 23 and 27 and have blood drawn. That test will show elevated levels of progesterone, indicating that you ovulated. If the levels are not elevated, than most likely you did not ovulate. Some doctors also do ultrasound scans to check follicles, mine has not as of yet. Also, he will probably check every month (if you need more than one cycle of Clomid) for ovarian cysts that can develop after using Clomid.
Good luck and baby dust!!!!!!

clomid can be given in different doses, I think that most woman start of 50 mg but this can be increased to 150 mg depending on whether they ovulate or not. Some doctors monitor there patients through scans, blood or urine analysis

I'm on my first cycle of clomid, at 50 mg. On day 21 of my cycle, I have blood taken to determine whether I ovulated. If the 50 mg. dosage did not induce ovulation, my doctor ups the dosage to 100 mg. for the next round.

Most women do start on 50 mg and increase to 100 mg if they didn't ovulate on 50 mg. Some doctors will automatically increase to 100 mg after 3 unsuccessful cycles at 50 mg. I never received a 100 mg tablet; I had to take 2 tablets for 100 mg and 3 tablets for 150 mg. I'm not sure what pure clomid means unless it is the non-generic version. However, the generic and name-brand are exactly the same. Your doctor should monitor you. He can do an ultrasound to check for follicle development before you ovulate or a blood test about 7 DPO to check your progesterone levels.
