Is my cat allergic to amoxicillin?

My cat was spayed the other day and ever since I started giving her her medicine (amoxicillin), she has been sneezing a lot lately.

Allergies to antibiotics generally have symptoms that are more severe than sneezing. She may have picked up a cold due to the surgery. Surgeries make people and animals more susceptible to contagions. As long as their isn't any discoloration when she sneezes, I wouldn't worry about it. If you notice that she is having breathing trouble, or if she starts having other symptoms, you may want to contact the vet.

It is very possible. I would definitely call the vet back. It could be a side effect or there could be other symptoms that you will have to look for. Please call him. It's Friday and you don't want to find out tomorrow that there is a problem and have to call the emergency vet. Some people are allergic to certain antibiotics, so I am sure that cats can be too.

I'm so confused.. we never prescribe antibiotics after a spay. Did you have it done at a discout clinic? The only reason to prescribe antibiotics after a sterile surgery is if the vet is concerned that the surgery may actually cause an infection. That's worrisome.

Secondly, any sneezing cat I must ask, was she vaccinated with her combination vaccine? (CVRPV) The only way a cat will ever get a 'cold' is if they are unvaccinated. If you cat was ill when she went in for surgery, perhaps this is the reason they prescribed the amoxicillin, please ask your vet why the antibiotics were prescribed, and make double sure your cat has been vaccinated correctly. Upper respiratory infections are nasty, and terribly contageous between cats.

You should ask your vet to be sure of getting the correct answer.
