Have you ever understood lyrics wrong and upon finding out the real words,found your own version better?

Question

It's happened to me quite often, when I listen to the usual death metal tunes, and try to understand the lyrics, I think I know what they're saying, but upon discovering the real lyrics in the internet or so, I actually think my version is better!

My song would be:
Cannibal Corpse - Stripped, raped and strangled...

What I understood:
"I don't belong in the darkness"...

The real lyrics:
"I come alive in the darkness"...

Upon finding out, I thought my version was more epic.
Of course, this question doesn't restrict itself to only death metal songs.
So, ramble on and share your false perceptions!

Yes I have done that to several songs, and when I found out what the real lyrics were I thought that the version that I had in my head was far better.

My husband sings the wrong lyrics to songs all the time. And he sings the same line over and over and over and over again until I want to murder him. When he sings the Gorillaz song, "Dare", he sings, "...it's bad." I tell him, "That's not the words, you moron!" and he says, "I like my words better," and I say, "you're a douche bag," and he says, "you're a douche bag's wife and a retard." That's my story.

Yes that song by Chubawumba, I used to sing it, "I get knocked down by a hurricane but you're never gonna get me down".. While the real lyrics are, "I get knocked down but I get up again..."

And I had friend who sang the song Love in the first degree - by Bananarama as "Cos I'm guilty, guilty as a bumblebee" When it's "guilty as a girl can be"..

I've got an entire list because it never fails to crack me up when we first discover them (myself included) singing our 'favourite' songs at the top of our lungs wrongly..

yeah, that happens to me a lot too. Like the song from 'men at work' ''I come from the land downunder'' from the 80's. I always thought it was:
''I saw a man from Brazil''
But its:
''I saw a man from Brussels''
I like my version better, I'd always pictured this huge brazilian dude in shorts, not some huge dutch guy in a suit.

Yeah! I used to love listening to the International news in 4/4 time.

And you know what, I got tired of listening to everyone else's lyrics.

It was like being awakened by a hypnotist.

Now I can't enjoy any of because tinnitus has set in and I have to strain my brain to hear what other people hear with hearing aids because they don't have a cure for tinnitus.
