As safe as you can take care of yourself and your belongings!

I used to work there so my info is probably out of date because things can change quickly. The borders with Eritrea and Somalia are probably not good to go to, but Addis is okay (typical big city crime -- pickpockets, etc.)

For the most part, it's safe for a seasoned traveller with common sense.
