OTC pain meds all work about the same for a sunburn. Try pouring vinegar over the burned area (keep away from eyes), it really takes the sting out. Also aloe gel helps.

Vinegar or steep some tea and put a rag in it when it cools down and blot it on your sunburn.

white shaving cream, like colgate brand, it takes the sting out instantly. spread it on, dont rub it in and then put a tee shirt on over it. the pain and heat are gone the moment it touches your skin.

Motrin for the inflammation and a vinegar compress (vinegar and water on washcloth) will take the heat out. Also if you can find it Rise shaving cream will help a lot, not any other kind of shaving cream works but Rise does. If it continues to get worse and not better, got to your doctor.
